Tesla Inc. Integrates Starlink Satellite Internet into Cybercab Robotaxi
Tesla Inc. integrated Starlink satellite hardware into its Cybercab robotaxi to eliminate cellular connectivity gaps for autonomous fleet operations and passenger entertainment.
Tesla Inc. integrated Starlink satellite internet hardware directly into the roofline of its Cybercab robotaxi. Elon Musk announced the move on X, explaining that the integration ensures the autonomous two-seat vehicles maintain connectivity in areas with poor cellular coverage, which he described as "Bermuda Triangles."
Musk stated the connectivity is necessary so the driverless fleet does not go "missing in action" as the service expands. For passengers, the satellite link enables the streaming of 4K sports, movies, and games, as well as productivity tasks during transit.
This collaboration between Tesla Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. follows other cross-company integrations, including the deployment of the Grok AI voice assistant in Tesla vehicles and a joint chip factory project called Terafab.
