Microsoft Earns $10 Billion Quarterly Revenue from OpenAI

Microsoft generated $10 billion in quarterly revenue from its partnership with OpenAI, representing nearly 11% of its total quarterly revenue.

Microsoft generated $10 billion in revenue from commercial arrangements with OpenAI during the quarter ending September 30, 2026. This figure accounts for nearly 11% of the company's total quarterly revenue of $92.3 billion, bringing the total revenue from OpenAI for the 2026 fiscal year to $24.1 billion. As of late September, Microsoft reported $7.2 billion in outstanding receivables from the AI startup.

These financial ties continue despite a strategic shift in the partnership. In October 2025, Microsoft relinquished exclusivity to allow OpenAI to collaborate with other cloud providers. In exchange, OpenAI committed to purchasing an additional $250 billion in Azure services.

Under an agreement reached in April 2026, OpenAI will share revenue with Microsoft through 2030, though this arrangement is subject to a cap. Additionally, Microsoft's ownership stake in OpenAI declined to 24% in September, down from 25% in June.
