South Korean Stocks Rally on AI and Tech Gains

South Korean stocks opened sharply higher Tuesday as technology heavyweights Samsung Electronics and SK hynix drove a rally fueled by artificial intelligence optimism.

Samsung Electronics and SK hynix led a sharp rally in South Korean stocks on Tuesday, pushing the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index up 2.02 percent to 7,149.3. The surge followed a record close for the U.S. Nasdaq Composite and was supported by renewed investor interest in artificial intelligence.

Semiconductor and technology firms saw the most significant gains. SK hynix shares rose 3.21 percent, while Samsung Electronics climbed 2.55 percent. Samsung Electro-Mechanics experienced a more substantial jump of 6.58 percent, and SK Square, the parent company of SK hynix, advanced 3.02 percent.

Broader market sentiment improved alongside falling global oil prices and softening U.S. Treasury yields. The Korean won also strengthened during the session, trading at 1,369.6 won against the U.S. dollar.
