Pakistani Forces Kill 33 Militants in Balochistan Operations

The Military of Pakistan killed at least 33 militants during separate counter-terrorism operations across Balochistan province on Monday and Tuesday. These actions are part of the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign aimed at eliminating foreign-sponsored terrorism.

In Chagai, security forces killed 12 attackers who ambushed a convoy of empty vehicles returning from the Reko Diq copper and gold mine; two security personnel were injured in the clash. In separate engagements in the Nokcha area of Chagai and Ziarat Cross in Pishin, the military killed 21 militants. These fighters belonged to groups identified as Fitna al-Hindustan and Fitna al-Khawarij, the latter being the government's designation for Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.

The operations followed a militant attempt to establish an illegal extortion checkpoint on the N-40 Quetta–Taftan Highway and a coordinated attack on a Customs House. The engagement at the Customs House resulted in the deaths of six government and security personnel, including two officers and a Customs Department official.

Security forces are continuing sanitization operations in the surrounding areas to secure national highways and the local population. These clashes occur amid a broader surge in regional instability; the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies reported a 38% increase in attacks during August compared to July.
