Nvidia Reportedly Halts RTX 5090 Production for AI Hardware
Nvidia is reportedly discontinuing the GeForce RTX 5090 to redirect GPU supplies toward high-margin professional workstation and AI data center products.
Nvidia Inc. has reportedly stopped manufacturing the GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, including the D variants designed for the Chinese market. According to leaked factory notices and industry sources, the company is redirecting GB202 GPU dies away from consumer hardware to prioritize its RTX Pro workstation lineup and data center equipment to meet surging demand from generative AI developers.
This shift toward higher-margin professional products, such as the RTX Pro 6000, 5500, and 5000 Blackwell, is expected to create a supply drought for consumer flagship cards and drive up retail prices for remaining inventory. To address the gap in the gaming market, reports suggest Nvidia will discontinue the 16GB version of the RTX 5080 and replace it with a 24GB version, which may launch in the first quarter of 2027.
Further complications include a rumored delay of an RTX 50 Super refresh due to industry-wide memory supply constraints. This memory crisis is reportedly affecting other hardware manufacturers, including Sony, Valve, and Xbox. Nvidia has not officially confirmed these reports or responded to requests for comment.
