Maine Opens Absentee Ballot Requests for November General Election
The Maine Secretary of State's Office opened absentee ballot requests for the November 3 General Election, allowing voters to apply online or via municipal clerks.
The Secretary of State of Maine announced on August 3, 2026, that registered voters may now request absentee ballots for the upcoming General Election on November 3. Under the state's no-excuse absentee voting laws, voters can submit their requests online or through their local municipal clerks.
Clerks will begin issuing ballots 30 days prior to the election. The deadline for voters to request a ballot is October 29, and all completed ballots must be received by the respective municipality by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
The general election features several high-profile contests, including a gubernatorial race between Hannah Pingree, Bobby Charles, and Rick Bennett. Additionally, voters will decide a U.S. Senate seat in a race between Susan Collins and Troy Jackson, and a U.S. Representative seat for Congressional District 2 featuring candidates Matt Dunlap and Paul LePage.
