Anthropic Files S-1 to Launch Record-Breaking IPO
Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering, scaling to the public market in three years and beating competitor OpenAI to the IPO stage.
AI startup Anthropic has filed an S-1 form to go public, positioning itself to potentially break IPO records. The company reached the public market stage just over three years after its first major venture capital round, effectively beating its primary competitor, OpenAI, to the IPO process.
Early investors have realized significant gains from the company's rapid scaling. Spark Capital, which led a funding round in spring 2023, and Bessemer Venture Partners, which has invested 800 million dollars since 2024, each hold stakes of approximately 1% in the company.
The filing follows a period of skepticism from critics who previously characterized the company's 18 billion dollar valuation as a FOMO bet. However, the move to go public confirms the company's market position as a primary challenger to OpenAI, which is not expected to go public until next year.
