AT&T Forms Fiber Joint Venture With Global Infrastructure Partners
AT&T Inc. partnered with Global Infrastructure Partners and CPP Investments to expand U.S. fiber internet across 16 states to support AI-driven connectivity demand.
AT&T Inc. has agreed to form a U.S. fiber joint venture with Global Infrastructure Partners and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to accelerate the expansion of fiber internet. The partnership will operate as a wholesale fiber commercial open access company, merging Gigapower and Forged Fiber 37, a subsidiary containing assets AT&T acquired from Lumen Technologies.
AT&T will hold 50% ownership of the venture, while Global Infrastructure Partners and CPP Investments will collectively own the remaining 50%. The initiative focuses on major metro areas across 16 states, including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, and Washington. This expansion supports AT&T's broader objective of reaching more than 60 million fiber locations by 2030.
Executives from the partnering firms stated that the venture aims to meet growing demand for high-capacity connectivity driven by artificial intelligence. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, pending regulatory approvals.
