Taiwan Detects Chinese Aircraft and Vessels Near Island

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense detected five Chinese aircraft and ten vessels operating around the island on Sunday, August 2.

The Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan detected five People's Liberation Army aircraft, eight PLA Navy vessels, and two official Chinese ships operating around the island on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Three of the aircraft sorties crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

Republic of China Armed Forces monitored and responded to the activity. This incident follows a pattern of recent incursions, including Saturday's report of five aircraft and eight to ten vessels, and a Wednesday event involving eight aircraft, seven navy vessels, and one official ship.

These military movements occur as the Government of China maintains that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, while Taiwan continues to operate an independent government, military, and economy.
