Apple Delays AI Smart Glasses to June 2027

Apple Inc. delayed the reveal of its first AI smart glasses, codenamed N50, from late 2026 to the Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2027. A consumer release is now expected by the end of 2027. The decision follows backlash against Meta Platforms Incorporated's Ray-Ban glasses regarding secret filming and data practices, prompting Apple to refine its messaging and hardware protections.

The device will feature speakers, microphones, and hands-free Siri access for music and phone calls, but it will not include an in-lens AR display. The glasses are expected to cost between $200 and $500. To differentiate itself from competitors, Apple plans to use on-device AI processing and will prohibit the use of recorded videos for AI training or third-party contractor review.

Company leadership is currently debating camera functionality, weighing options to limit the hardware to environmental analysis or removing the camera entirely to avoid privacy risks. Apple is also avoiding the use of facial recognition or continuous environment analysis. Separately, reports indicate the company is conducting late-stage testing for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 for 2026, while planning a 20th anniversary iPhone and Mac models utilizing the M6 chip.
