OpenAI Launches Dots AI Assistant for Enterprise Users

OpenAI introduced Dots, a proactive AI assistant that autonomously executes tasks across work tools, amid privacy concerns regarding third-party data access.

OpenAI launched a roadshow in London to promote Dots, a proactive AI assistant designed to learn user goals and execute tasks autonomously across inboxes and professional tools. Currently available to enterprises and high-end Pro subscribers in the United States, the tool competes with offerings from Meta, xAI, and Anthropic. To manage high compute costs, the company routes certain tasks to Terra, a smaller GPT-6.1 model, instead of the larger GPT-6 Astra.

The rollout has drawn criticism from Signal president Meredith Whittaker, who warned that always-on agents ingest information from third parties without their consent. OpenAI responded by suggesting users connect tools gradually to build trust and by providing visibility into the data the agent accesses.

In a separate announcement, OpenAI introduced a new framework for data center deals. The policy aims to eliminate nondisclosure agreements with public officials and ensure that local residents do not bear the cost of electricity used by the company's facilities.
