South Sudan Unveils Voter Registration Book for December Elections

The National Elections Commission (NEC) unveiled an official voter registration book on September 22, 2026, moving the country from the planning phase to implementation for general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026. The NEC board approved the registration form and the regulations required to guide state committees and the commission's secretariat.

Chairperson Gabriel Bol Deng Majok announced that the government has provided $25 million in initial funding, with further disbursements expected from the Ministry of Finance. The commission intends to print and distribute registration books to three administrative areas and 10 states within the week.

These steps follow amendments to the National Elections Act, 2012, signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit. The updated law expands voter eligibility to include citizens currently in lawful custody and those living in the diaspora.
