India Hosts BRICS Anti-Corruption Summit in Hyderabad

The Government of India is hosting the second meeting of the BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group and the second meeting of the BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery in Hyderabad on August 4 and 5, 2026. Held under the presidency theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," the summit brings together senior policymakers and law enforcement from member nations to address the evolution of corrupt practices.

Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training Rachana Shah inaugurated the event, emphasizing the role of technology and international cooperation in tackling fugitive offenders and recovering assets. Indian officials highlighted domestic digital initiatives, such as Direct Benefit Transfer and the Government e-Marketplace, as models for improving governance and accountability. The agenda specifically focuses on tracing fugitive offenders in corruption cases, supporting extradition proceedings, and managing risks associated with FinTech and digital assets.

Russian delegates Alexey Muratov and Olga Mokhova praised India's leadership in establishing practical anti-corruption measures and advocated for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing to address shared social challenges. The proceedings include a side event on August 5 titled "Ethical Governance through Innovation and Tech-Driven Systems," which focuses on digital public procurement and public administration integrity. This summit serves as the final ACWG gathering under India's presidency to consolidate progress in institutional capacity-building and transparency.
