NDC Inaugurates Reconciliation Committee to Resolve Post-Primary Disputes

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) inaugurated a seven-member National Reconciliation Committee in Abuja to resolve internal divisions and heal rifts following recent primary elections. National Chairman Moses Cleopas appointed Professor Pat Utomi as chairman and Buba Galadima as co-chairman. The committee is tasked with engaging aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders to restore party unity, with a final report due by late August.

To support the national panel, the party created three zonal reconciliation subcommittees for the North, South-south, and South-east regions. The initiative follows tensions caused by delays in the publication of candidate names by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Some candidates credited National Leader Henry Seriake Dickson for stabilizing the party and managing disagreements transparently during the nomination process.

During the inauguration, Pat Utomi urged members to prioritize the collective good over personal ambition and noted that the party's policy framework will focus on opportunities for young Nigerians. Buba Galadima expressed confidence in restoring harmony but criticized the Electoral Act, claiming its provisions hinder internal democracy for opposition parties. Galadima also called for the removal of President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Chairman Cleopas emphasized that the party's campaign is driven by national interest and the support of figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
