Karnataka Districts Publish Final Electoral Rolls After Revision
Election officials in Haveri and Belagavi districts published final electoral rolls, showing a voter increase in Haveri and a sharp decline in Belagavi.
Election officials in Karnataka's Haveri and Belagavi districts published final electoral rolls following a Special Intensive Revision. The results revealed contrasting trends in voter registration across the two regions.
In Haveri, Vijayamahantesh Danammanavar, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, announced a voter increase of 13,013, bringing the total to 1,233,294. This growth was driven largely by a rise in young voters. To accommodate the expanded electorate, officials added 77 new polling stations.
Belagavi experienced a significant reduction in its electorate, which dropped from approximately 41 lakh to 3,635,860 voters. While 42,299 new voters were added, officials deleted 471,140 names. The Election Commission of India attributed these deletions to duplicate entries, deaths, migration, and a lack of response during verification.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan stated that eligible voters missing from the roll can still apply for inclusion. The sharp decline in Belagavi has sparked political debate regarding how the reduced voter count may influence future election outcomes.
