Anthropic Plans Alberta Data Center Ahead of Trillion-Dollar IPO

Anthropic is negotiating a hyperscale data center lease in Alberta and preparing for a New York Stock Exchange IPO targeting a valuation up to US$2 trillion.

Anthropic is negotiating a lease for a hyperscale data center campus in Sturgeon County, Alberta, to expand the infrastructure supporting its AI tool Claude. Developed by Beacon Data Centers Inc., the proposed site would feature four data halls for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The campus would be powered by a 920-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant, which the Alberta Utilities Commission approved on October 23.

This Alberta project would double the power capacity of a previously announced facility in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia. For that project, the company signed a 20-year lease with EverWind Fuels for a facility with an estimated cost of $10 billion.

These infrastructure moves coincide with the company's preparations for an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange during the week of November 16. The company is targeting a valuation between US$1.5 trillion and US$2 trillion and has committed over US$500 billion toward future compute and infrastructure spending.
