Morgan Stanley Leaks Pipeline of 100 Potential Investment Deals

Morgan Stanley accidentally emailed a confidential list of over 100 potential investment-banking deals to clients, sparking alarm among regulators and the financial industry.

Morgan Stanley inadvertently leaked a confidential internal document containing a pipeline of more than 100 potential investment-banking deals via email on September 22, 2026. The leak occurred when Mohamed Atmani, the firm's Asia-Pacific head of financial sponsors based in Hong Kong, mistakenly sent an internal version of a private equity sector update to clients instead of a client-facing version.

The leaked list detailed prospective initial public offerings and transactions involving pension funds and private equity firms across India, China, South Korea, Australia, and South Asia, as well as regions in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The document disclosed the names of companies and institutional investors involved in pitches and ongoing discussions, including price-sensitive information. A blurred copy of the document also appeared on Instagram.

Although the firm sent a follow-up email requesting that recipients not open the attachment, the list was widely circulated within the financial sector. The incident has caused alarm among listed issuers, regulators, and the banking industry in Hong Kong. Morgan Stanley stated that it took prompt steps to address the inadvertent sharing of information and continues to engage with relevant parties.
