Ontario Schedules Extensive Highway Closures Across Four Regions

The Ministry of Transportation has implemented a series of extensive roadwork closures across several Ontario regions between September 26 and September 28, 2026, to conduct planned maintenance and emergency repairs.

In the Niagara region, 12 closures were scheduled for September 26, affecting Highway 58, Highway 406, and the Queen Elizabeth Way. Notable disruptions include alternating lane closures between the Welland River Bridge in Niagara Falls and Netherby Road in Fort Erie, a project that began August 17 and is expected to last until December 18.

On September 27, the focus shifted to the Halton region with 18 planned closures. These primarily affected Highway 403 and the Queen Elizabeth Way in Burlington and Oakville, including continuous three-lane alternating closures in Oakville through early October.

By September 28, the scope expanded to York Region and Waterloo. York Region faced the highest volume of disruptions with 24 closures across Highways 400, 404, 427, and 48, specifically impacting Vaughan, Markham, and Newmarket. In Waterloo, five closures were scheduled, primarily affecting Highway 85 in Kitchener and Waterloo. Officials noted that these schedules remain subject to change based on weather conditions or other emergency factors.
