Ledger Confirms Hardware Implants in Southeast Asian Reseller Devices
Ledger identified unauthorized hardware implants in devices sold by CryptoBilis, a reseller in Southeast Asia, with estimated losses potentially exceeding $86 million.
Ledger confirmed that hardware wallets purchased from CryptoBilis, a reseller operating in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, contained unauthorized hardware implants. The manufacturer stated that its own infrastructure, systems, and services were not compromised, describing the incident as isolated to this specific reseller.
An investigator known as Specter estimates that losses across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tron may exceed $86 million. Ledger has not officially confirmed the total financial impact or the number of affected customers. In response to the discovery, CryptoBilis has ceased all hardware wallet sales while an investigation continues.
Ledger advised customers who bought devices from the reseller to avoid initiating setup or to move their assets to a new signer with a new seed to ensure security.
