Iran Executes Two Islamic State Militants for Armed Rebellion
Iran executed two members of the Islamic State by hanging after they were convicted of plotting attacks and engaging in armed rebellion.
The government of Iran executed two members of the Islamic State, Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani, by hanging on July 14, 2026. The men were convicted of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic after being identified as part of a militant cell that formed following the group's territorial losses in Iraq and Syria.
Iranian security forces dismantled the cell after discovering a hideout in the Bamo mountain area near the Iraqi border. The operation resulted in the seizure of weapons and ammunition, though it also led to the deaths of several militants and three members of the Revolutionary Guard.
The executions took place after the Supreme Court of Iran upheld the death sentences. While the judiciary confirmed the hangings, officials did not disclose the specific location where the executions were carried out.
