Prabowo Subianto Announces Indonesia Food Self-Sufficiency Goals
President Prabowo Subianto announced Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities during his State of the Nation Address in Jakarta.
President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities, including rice, corn, table sugar, industrial sugar, garlic, beef, buffalo meat, and soybeans. He delivered the announcement during the State of the Nation Address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly and a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council in Jakarta.
While listing these eight commodities, Prabowo clarified that the country has not yet fully reached self-sufficiency in garlic, beef, or buffalo meat. He stated that the government aims to reach the garlic goal within three years. He further noted that national protein needs are currently being met through fish, eggs, and chicken.
The address occurred on Friday as part of the 81st anniversary celebrations of Indonesia's independence, held under the theme "A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia."
