Keisha Lance Bottoms Proposes Georgia Data Center Moratorium
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms proposed a moratorium on new data center construction to evaluate impacts on Georgia's electric grid and water supplies.
Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia, proposed a moratorium on the construction of new data centers to evaluate the industry's impact on the state's electric grid, water supplies, public health, and consumer costs. She suggested the pause could last between one and six months, or longer, to determine if Georgia requires additional data centers and how to manage future development responsibly.
Beyond infrastructure, Bottoms advocated for the expansion of Medicaid to provide coverage for an estimated 300,000 uninsured residents and to address the closure of nine rural hospitals. On the issue of immigration, she expressed support for lawful enforcement while opposing tactics she considers disruptive to local law enforcement and communities.
