Bank of Baroda Reports Record Q2 Profit of ₹6,532 Crore
Bank of Baroda reported a record standalone net profit for the second quarter while facing a $15 billion lawsuit from NMC Healthcare founder B.R. Shetty.
Bank of Baroda reported a record standalone net profit of ₹6,532 crore for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, a 36% increase over the ₹4,809 crore earned during the same period last year. The lender saw its net interest income rise 9% to ₹13,026 crore, while other income nearly doubled to ₹6,880 crore. Asset quality also improved, with the gross NPA ratio dropping to 1.78% from 2.16%.
Managing Director Sanjiv Chand raised lending and deposit growth guidance, citing strong traction in retail, agri, and MSME loans, with the latter growing by 21.3%. To reduce reliance on bulk deposits, the bank mobilized $8.08 billion through a Reserve Bank of India special concessional swap window for FCNR (B) deposits.
Simultaneously, the bank is defending a $15 billion lawsuit in the Bombay High Court filed by NMC Healthcare founder B.R. Shetty, who alleges the bank facilitated the diversion of funds. Chand described the allegations as untested and noted that the matter remains sub judice in courts in the United Arab Emirates.
