APC Officials Dismiss Peter Obi Threat Ahead of 2027 Election

Minister Dave Umahi and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike face challenges from opposition figures as the All Progressives Congress prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is positioning itself for the 2027 general elections amid conflicting assessments of the opposition's strength. Minister of Works Dave Umahi stated that Peter Obi does not pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu or the APC, arguing that Obi is not the sole presidential aspirant from the South-East. Umahi attributed the APC's poor 2023 performance in that region to marginalization by the previous administration, though he claimed current appointments have improved representation.

Simultaneously, political tensions have escalated in the Federal Capital Territory. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike claimed he would resign if President Tinubu loses the 2027 election. This prompted a challenge from Moses Paul, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, who asserted that Wike will fail to secure the FCT for the APC. Paul accused the government of rigging previous elections and condemned alleged threats of violence made by APC officials, including Kuje Area Council Chairman Danjuma Shekwolo, against non-party members.
