Tom Still Urges Wisconsin Governor Candidates to Focus on State Issues

Following the conclusion of Wisconsin's gubernatorial primary election on August 11, 2026, Tom Still urged the Democratic winner and presumptive Republican nominee Som Tiffany to shift their campaign focus toward state-specific concerns rather than national federal issues.

Still, a former president of the Wisconsin Technology Council, identified the state's property tax system as a critical priority, warning that the current situation is flirting with a "property tax rebellion." He also advocated for significant governance reforms for the University of Wisconsin system.

Specifically, Still proposed that the next governor grant the University of Wisconsin-Madison the power to set its own tuition rates and provide it with independent bonding authority to prevent major projects from taking "half a generation." In exchange for this autonomy, Still suggested the university should admit a higher number of high-achieving students from within Wisconsin.
