Georgia and Azerbaijan Launch Electronic Road Freight Permit System

Georgia and Azerbaijan launched a bilateral electronic permit exchange system to digitize international road freight documentation and streamline cross-border logistics.

The Government of Georgia and the Government of Azerbaijan launched a bilateral electronic permit exchange system for international road freight on July 20, 2026. Managed by the Land Transport Agency of Georgia, the digital platform allows carriers to manage and exchange permit documents within a single online environment, significantly reducing the need for paper documentation.

This initiative builds upon a previous digital framework Georgia established with Türkiye. Throughout 2026, authorities from both nations exchanged approximately 1,000 electronic permits per category. The system is designed to secure data exchange and improve the overall efficiency of transport and logistics cooperation between the two countries.

Bakur Mikadze, the director of the Land Transport Agency, stated that the system streamlines administrative procedures. Both nations plan to transition fully to the digital system by 2027.
