Crispin Odey Fails to Overturn Lifetime Financial Industry Ban

The Upper Tribunal dismissed a legal bid by Crispin Odey to overturn a lifetime ban from the United Kingdom financial services industry. The ruling upholds a previous decision by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which banned the former fund manager and issued a 1.8 million pound fine based on a lack of integrity.

The FCA determined that Odey was not a fit and proper person to work in the sector after he attempted to frustrate a 2021 disciplinary hearing regarding his conduct. The regulatory action follows an internal report that detailed at least 46 allegations of inappropriate conduct over 17 years at Odey Asset Management, including harassment and sexual assault.

This judicial defeat marks the latest in a series of legal setbacks for Odey this year. He previously settled a 79 million pound libel suit against the Financial Times and reached a personal injury settlement with several women who accused him of sexual assault.
