Huawei and Qualcomm Sign Multi-Year 5G Patent Deal

Huawei Technologies and Qualcomm have entered into a broad multi-year patent licensing agreement covering 5G, artificial intelligence, computing, and networking technologies. This agreement marks the first time the two companies have reached a licensing deal specifically covering 5G technology.

As part of the arrangement, Qualcomm will purchase specific Huawei patents in the United States related to AI, networking, and computing. Huawei expects the deal to increase the total value of its patent licensing agreements to over $6.9 billion upon completion.

Huawei noted that its intellectual property business has generated positive revenue since 2021. This growth follows significant research and development investments the company made after 2019 U.S. trade restrictions limited its access to advanced chips and software.
