Monte dei Paschi Reports Profit Amid Intesa Sanpaolo Takeover
Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena reported a third-quarter profit of 542.9 million euros while reviewing a takeover offer from Intesa Sanpaolo.
Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena reported a third-quarter net profit of 542.9 million euros, surpassing analyst expectations of 468.4 million euros. Total revenue increased 8.7% to 2.00 billion euros, driven by growth in net interest income and net fee and commission income.
The bank is currently analyzing a takeover offer from Intesa Sanpaolo and expects to finish its review by the end of November. This potential sale became viable after Monte dei Paschi shareholders recently rejected bids to acquire Banco BPM and Banca Generali.
Intesa Sanpaolo has already received authorization for the acquisition from the European Central Bank. The banking group now awaits final approval from the Italian markets regulator, which is anticipated early next week.
