Nuvacore Raises Funds at $2.5 Billion Valuation for AI Chips

Nuvacore is raising hundreds of millions of dollars to develop specialized data center CPUs designed for AI workloads.

Nuvacore, a San Jose-based microchip startup, is raising hundreds of millions of dollars at an approximate valuation of $2.5 billion. The six-month-old company intends to develop a new central processing unit (CPU) specifically for data centers to meet the rising demand for AI data-crunching capacity used by chatbots such as Anthropic's Claude.

Founded by engineers Gerard Williams, John Bruno, and Ram Srinivasan, the startup is utilizing an unconventional design strategy. Nuvacore is building core chip functionality before committing to a specific architecture, such as x86 or Arm, to optimize the design for AI infrastructure and data center computations.

The company previously announced a seed funding round led by Sequoia Capital. This fundraising effort coincides with a broader surge in semiconductor investment, with $10.7 billion invested in startups during the first five months of 2026.
