Pakistan Peoples Party Demands Re-polling in AJK Elections

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally requested the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to withhold the final results of the first phase of the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections pending a full investigation. The party is demanding the suspension of results and re-polling at specific stations due to allegations of widespread irregularities.

Earlier, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed party workers in Muzaffarabad, arguing that transparent elections are the only way to establish a government capable of solving national and public problems. He warned that controversial results would create a government with a mandate lacking the stability required to address current challenges, while also noting unresolved issues regarding refugee seats.

Following the initial polling phase, a PPP delegation led by senior leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf met with the Chief Election Commissioner to report misconduct. The party alleges that polling agents were forcibly removed from stations and that armed individuals influenced the process through fraudulent voting, specifically in the LA-12 constituency and during unrest in Kotli. Ashraf has called for any subsequent re-polling to be conducted under military supervision to ensure fairness.
