Romania Shoots Down Three Russian Drones in Three Days

Romanian F-16 fighter jets shot down three Russian drones over three consecutive days ending Sunday, July 26, 2026. The most recent interception occurred at 10:13 am Sunday over territorial waters 12 km northeast of Sulina in the Danube Delta. This followed similar shootdowns on Friday in an uninhabited area and Saturday near the village of Sfântu Gheorghe.

The Romanian Prosecutor General's Office identified the drone downed on Friday as a Shahed-type vehicle used by Russia in its war against Ukraine. Romanian authorities report that Russian drones have entered national airspace without permission 33 times since the conflict began.

Nicușor Dan, President of Romania, characterized the repeated breaches as inadmissible and intolerable, stating that the country is treating the actions with the utmost seriousness alongside its allies. In response to the escalations, the Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador. Defense Minister Radu Miruta affirmed that Romania will continue to firmly defend its sovereignty and airspace.
