Russia Escalates Drone Strikes Against Ukrainian Rail and Ports
Russian forces launched intensified drone attacks targeting Ukrainian railway infrastructure, port facilities, and naval vessels, prompting Ukraine to deploy AI-automated defense turrets in Kyiv.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced overnight drone strikes targeting Ukrainian logistics, transport, and port infrastructure. These operations hit a missile and artillery weapons depot in Ilyichevka, a dry cargo vessel at the port of Chernomorsk, and berthing infrastructure at the port of Izmail used for military cargo.
Russian forces have significantly escalated attacks on Ukraine's railway network. Ukrzaliznytsia reports that nearly 60% of all locomotives hit since 2022 were targeted this year. Russia is now deploying jet-powered Geran-4 drones equipped with autonomous navigation, US-manufactured sensors, and cumulative-cutting warheads designed to destroy bridges and hardened steel.
In response to these faster drones, Ukraine has deployed AI-automated machine gun turrets in Kyiv. Between October 4 and 5, Russia launched 205 drones across various oblasts and struck a Turkish-flagged civilian vessel in the Black Sea, resulting in the death of the ship's captain.
Ukraine continues its own long-range campaign, reporting the destruction of aircraft at the Khanskaya Airbase and the disabling of over 51% of Russian oil refining capacity.
