BioNTech to Close Facilities in Germany and Singapore

BioNTech will shut down manufacturing facilities in Germany and Singapore after a wide-ranging sales process failed to produce buyers. The company initiated the sale in May for sites located in Singapore and the German cities of Idar-Oberstein, Marburg, and Tuebingen as it shifts away from pandemic-era production.

This restructuring involves the elimination of up to 1,860 positions. The company is transferring its COVID-19 vaccine production to its partner, Pfizer, as part of a broader strategic shift. Regarding the failed divestment, the company stated that "it has unfortunately not been possible to finalise a sale."

In a separate leadership change, the company previously announced that its two co-founders will depart by the end of 2026 to launch a new venture.
