TMC MP Demands Urgent Rajya Sabha Debate on Political Violence

Member of Parliament Mohammed Nadimul Haque submitted a notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha on August 10, 2026, demanding the suspension of all scheduled business to debate urgent security and human rights issues. Haque sought a formal discussion regarding alleged political violence in West Bengal and a specific attack on the convoy of Trinamool Congress party chief Mamata Banerjee.

The notice also highlighted police actions against students protesting exam paper leaks at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and across Bihar. Haque described the attack on Banerjee's convoy as an "attack on the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution of India."

The All India Trinamool Congress further demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah appear before Parliament to answer for security lapses and a deteriorating law and order situation. The party claimed that democratic dissent in India is currently being answered with "savage force."
