Anima Anandkumar Launches Physics-Centric AI Startup Accelerated Understanding

Anima Anandkumar and Benedikt Jenik launched Accelerated Understanding Inc, an AI company featuring a physics-centric model capable of processing 5 trillion pieces of data in a single prompt. Moving away from the Transformer architecture used in language-based models, the system employs neural operators to predict physical phenomena in space and time. The company focuses on enterprise applications including robotics, chip design, geological data analysis, and weather prediction.

Before founding the company, Anandkumar and Jenik declined an offer to lead Project Prometheus, a venture co-founded by Vik Bajaj and backed by Jeff Bezos. That offer included a 35 percent stake and significant funding. While Project Prometheus went on to raise $12 billion in June 2026 to automate the manufacturing of complex physical systems, the founders chose to build their own independent venture. They leveraged early encouragement from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and established various hardware partnerships to support their development.
