MRC Reports Left-Leaning Bias in Apple News Content

MRC Free Speech America claims Apple News exhibits a strong left-leaning bias under CEO John Ternus, featuring few stories from right-leaning outlets.

Media watchdog MRC Free Speech America reported that Apple News continues to exhibit a strong left-leaning bias under CEO John Ternus. An analysis of the top 20 daily stories from October 1 to October 27, 2026, found that 67 percent of featured stories came from left-leaning outlets, while only 2 percent originated from right-leaning sources.

According to the report, nearly half of the stories from right-leaning outlets were framed negatively toward Republicans and the administration of Donald Trump. MRC claims this pattern persists from the tenure of former CEO Tim Cook, noting that the platform previously went 100 days without publishing a single story from a right-leaning outlet.

MRC asserts that Apple News remains more anti-conservative than competitors Google News and Microsoft MSN. The organization's findings follow previous scrutiny of the platform, including a letter sent to Tim Cook by FTC Commissioner Andrew N. Ferguson regarding the aggregator's political leanings.
