Gideon Moi Accuses President Ruto of Breaking Political Deal
Gideon Moi claims President William Ruto failed to honor a 2025 agreement involving Baringo development projects and government roles for the Kanu Party.
Kanu Party chairman Gideon Moi accused President William Ruto of betraying a political agreement reached in October 2025. Speaking to Kalenjin elders at Kabarak on October 23, 2026, Moi alleged that the president failed to deliver on promises made in exchange for Moi withdrawing from the Baringo Senate race.
This withdrawal allowed the United Democratic Alliance candidate, Kiprono Chemitei Cheburet, to run unopposed and win the by-election on November 27, 2025. The contested deal reportedly included the construction of a university and a stadium in Kabarnet, the completion of stalled dams and roads, and a formal role for the Kenya African National Union in government.
Moi stated that he acted with a clean heart for the benefit of Baringo residents rather than personal gain. While the president's office has not responded to the allegations, the dispute emerges as political alliances shift ahead of the 2027 General Election.
