MP Lingamaneni Ramesh Requests Two Additional AIIMS for Andhra Pradesh

Jana Sena Member of Parliament Lingamaneni Ramesh formally requested the Indian government to establish two additional All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-level institutions in Andhra Pradesh. In a letter to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Ramesh proposed placing one facility in Rayalaseema and another in North Coastal Andhra (Uttarandhra) to reduce travel distances for patients seeking advanced care.

He argued that a single AIIMS is insufficient for a state with nearly five crore people spread across three distinct regions. To support this claim, he cited precedents in Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir, where multiple AIIMS institutions were sanctioned based on geographical requirements.

Beyond the new institutions, Ramesh called for the expansion of the existing AIIMS Mangalagiri. He urged the addition of super-specialty departments and advanced research centers to strengthen the state's tertiary healthcare infrastructure.
