Indian Army Launches Bharat Rice and Logistics Pact
The Indian Army launched Bharat Rice for troops and signed a five-year logistics agreement with the Food Corporation of India to enhance operational resilience.
The Indian Army launched the Bharat Rice initiative on October 12, 2026, in New Delhi to improve nutrition and ration quality for defense personnel. Under the program, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India will supply superior-quality, defense-milled rice directly to Army Supply Depots during the 2026-27 financial year. To facilitate transport to remote regions such as Ladakh and the North East, the rice will be distributed in ergonomic 10 kg and 30 kg bags.
During the launch ceremony, the military signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Food Corporation of India. This agreement grants the Army access to the agency's warehouses, silos, material-handling equipment, and labor during operational contingencies.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the logistics pact draws on lessons from Operation Sindoor, noting that warning times in future conflicts could be extremely short. He characterized logistics resilience as a "force multiplier" and a form of combat power in modern warfare. Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi added that providing quality food to the nation's protectors is a primary duty.
