South Africa Hires 301 Immigration Officers to Boost Enforcement

The Department of Home Affairs is recruiting 301 new immigration officers to increase national enforcement capacity by 35 percent.

The Department of Home Affairs is recruiting 301 additional immigration officers to strengthen enforcement capacity across South Africa. This recruitment drive increases the total number of officers from 868 to 1,169, representing a 35% increase in available personnel.

Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber described the appointments as one of the largest investments in immigration enforcement capacity in years. The move is a central component of the "Home Affairs @ home" reforms, which aim to modernize the national immigration system through digitalization and a focus on the rule of law. These reforms include the implementation of Electronic Travel Authorisation technology.

To support these goals, the department is coordinating with the National Treasury to secure the necessary resources for further digital transformation and ongoing capacity-building efforts.
