Before arriving in South Carolina, Sitharaman conducted bilateral economic dialogues in Canada and visited Chicago. During her time in Chicago, she addressed the Indian diaspora, stating that India has fulfilled its fiscal trajectory and reached the last mile of its 2025-26 fiscal deficit targets. She further noted that India has established a path of fiscal discipline regarding the fiscal deficit.
While in Chicago, Sitharaman met with executives from Hyatt, Shield AI, and ADM to discuss expansion in hospitality, AI-enabled autonomy in defense technology, and sustainable agricultural supply chains. Regarding broader trade, Sitharaman indicated that India is pursuing bilateral treaties with the European Union, Australia, the UAE, and EFTA nations because multilateral frameworks have progressed slowly.
