Azad Kashmir Sets August 24 Polls for Reserved Seats

The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir announced a polling schedule for eight reserved seats in the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with elections set for August 24. The process requires candidates to submit nomination papers by August 20, with scrutiny occurring the same day. Appeals will be heard on August 21 and 22, and the final candidate list will be issued on August 23.

These elections follow the 2026 general elections, in which the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz emerged as the largest party with 25 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party secured 12 seats. The reserved seats include categories for women, Ulema-o-Mashaikh, overseas Kashmiris, and technocrats.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is expected to further increase its majority by gaining six of these remaining seats.
