Democrats Lead in Midterm Polls as GOP Targets Expand

Democratic candidates hold a 51 percent lead over Republicans in a new Emerson College poll ahead of the November midterm elections.

Democratic candidates for Congress hold a lead over Republican opponents ahead of the November midterm elections. An Emerson College poll shows 51 percent of likely voters support Democrats, while 43 percent support Republicans and 6 percent remain undecided.

Suzan DelBene, Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, responded to the momentum by adding five Republican seats to the committee's target list for flipping. DelBene attributed the shift to voter dissatisfaction with the second-term agenda of President Donald Trump and Republican governance, stating that American families are struggling under broken promises and higher costs.

The polling suggests Democrats are positioned to retake control of the House of Representatives. In the Senate, Democrat Roy Cooper leads the race for the seat vacated by retiring Republican Senator Thom Tillis. However, some Republican incumbents, including Susan Collins and Dan Sullivan, maintain strong positions, and Jon Husted continues to hold an advantage in Ohio.
