India Tightens Security in Jammu and Kashmir for Independence Day

Security agencies have established a multi-layered security grid across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the peaceful conduct of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The deployment includes the Indian Army, the Border Security Force, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, with a specific focus on the Line of Control and the International Border to prevent infiltration.

Jammu and Kashmir Police intensified measures on August 13 and 14, implementing increased vehicle checks, frisking, and drone surveillance. In south Kashmir, forces conducted cordon-and-search operations following recent militant attacks that killed a policeman and two migrant workers. Security has also been heightened along the Jammu-Srinagar and Jammu-Pathankot national highways through the deployment of Quick Response Teams.

Operational preparedness was coordinated through high-level reviews. Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat chaired a meeting in Srinagar to mandate increased night patrolling and intelligence-based operations, while Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti led coordination meetings for the Jammu zone. These efforts center on two primary venues: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside over the main function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will unfurl the tricolour at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu.
