PPC Renewables Romania Builds 80MWh Battery Storage System

PPC Renewables Romania is constructing a RON 87.4 million battery energy storage system at the Corugea wind farm to expand its renewable energy capacity.

PPC Renewables Romania is constructing a battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Corugea wind farm in Tulcea County. The project, valued at approximately RON 87.4 million, will provide a capacity of 40.08 MW and 80.16 MWh. Funding for the installation includes RON 77.4 million from PPC Renewables Romania and RON 9.9 million in European co-financing from the Modernisation Fund.

The BESS will be integrated into the existing 70 MW wind farm, which utilizes 35 turbines to generate roughly 190,000 MWh annually. This initiative follows the company's recent installation of a smaller storage system at a solar park in Colibași.

This investment aligns with a broader strategy by the parent company, Public Power Corporation, to expand its renewable portfolio across Greece, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria, targeting 18.8 GW of total installed capacity by 2030. In Romania, the company aims to reach an installed capacity of 3.6 GW by 2028 and 4.7 GW by 2030, while working toward a 2 GW storage capacity milestone.
