Michigan Fixes Voter Database After Primary Day Slowdown
Michigan state officials increased system capacity for the Qualified Voter File to prevent a recurrence of the technical failures seen during the August primary.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget implemented technical fixes to the Qualified Voter File (QVF) after the database slowed significantly during the August primary. The failure, which lasted between 30 and 60 minutes, hindered the processing of new voter registrations and absentee ballots. State officials attributed the slowdown to inefficient system processes and insufficient resources.
To ensure the stability of the November 3 midterm election, the state increased system capacity and added new monitoring tools. While the Michigan Department of State expressed confidence in these streamlined processes, the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks warned that a potential distrust in the U.S. Postal Service could increase in-person voting, placing unusual strain on the QVF.
