Louisiana Congressional Candidates Detail Platforms Ahead of November Election

Candidates for Louisiana's 1st and 3rd Congressional Districts outlined contrasting views on immigration, energy, and reproductive rights in recent policy questionnaires.

Candidates for two Louisiana congressional districts detailed their policy platforms in questionnaires ahead of the November 3 election. In the 1st District, incumbent House Majority Leader Steve Scalise faces challenges from Republican Randall Arrington, Democrat Lauren Jewett, and independent E. Liddy Glass.

Arrington, a retired Navy aviator, advocates for congressional term limits, stricter immigration enforcement, and expanded domestic oil and gas production, while dismissing carbon capture as a "Climate Change HOAX." Jewett, a special education teacher, proposes a moratorium on AI data centers, the abolition of ICE, and the federal codification of Roe v. Wade. Both Arrington and Jewett agree that members of Congress should be banned from trading stocks and prohibited from signing non-disclosure agreements.

In the 3rd District, Democratic candidates John Day, Priscilla Gonzalez, and Caleb Walker expressed unified support for protecting reproductive healthcare, banning congressional stock trading, and reforming FEMA to reduce bureaucracy for disaster survivors. While all three support responsible offshore oil and gas development and coastal restoration, they differ on carbon capture. Day opposes federal tax subsidies for these projects, while Gonzalez and Walker focus on protecting landowner rights and opposing eminent domain. Incumbent Congressman Clay Higgins and candidates Kate Cotten and Tia LeBrun did not respond to the inquiry.
