India Signs Rs 4,106 Crore Defence Contracts for Satellite and Torpedoes
The Indian Ministry of Defence signed contracts totaling Rs 4,106 crore for a military communication satellite and indigenous heavyweight torpedoes to boost domestic manufacturing.
The Indian Ministry of Defence signed two contracts totaling Rs 4,106 crore on October 15, 2026, to upgrade the capabilities of the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. These acquisitions support the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives aimed at increasing self-reliance in domestic defence manufacturing.
A Rs 2,563 crore contract with New Space India Limited covers the design, development, and manufacture of the GSAT-7C communication satellite. This indigenously developed satellite will provide the Indian Air Force with secure, beyond-line-of-sight connectivity for fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and ground-control stations. The GSAT-7C is intended to replace the GSAT-7A, which was launched in 2018 and reaches the end of its eight-year mission life in December 2026.
Additionally, the ministry signed a Rs 1,543 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited for Varunastra heavyweight torpedoes, which are indigenous ship-launched anti-submarine weapons. The ministry also recently finalized a Rs 661.50 crore deal with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited for fire control systems and launchers for Navy ships.
