Apple Launches AI-Enhanced Parental Controls in iOS 27

Apple Inc. released iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on September 15, 2026, introducing a suite of AI-enhanced parental control tools integrated into the Screen Time update. These features focus on content access, communication, device usage timing, and account management to create safer digital experiences for children.

Key additions include the Ask to Browse feature for Safari website approval and Time Allowances, which provide age-tailored guidance and limits for categories like gaming and social media. The Communication Safety tool has been expanded to block graphic violence and gore in addition to nudity. To facilitate these tools, Apple redesigned the Screen Time dashboard for real-time adjustments and simplified the setup process for Child Accounts, which are mandatory for users under 13 and available up to age 18.

Apple developed these features with guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics and is collaborating with the organization to integrate its Family Media Plan into a parental guide within the products. While the founder of Protect Young Eyes praised the intuitive design for improving accessibility, he warned that intentional users may still find ways to circumvent the filters.
